Boot Work Custom Footbeds: The very first step in achieving the right stance is to get rid of the thin and generic foot beds that come stocked with any boot and to get a custom footbed. Each person's foot is a different shape and sits differently within their boot than the next person. Having a custom footbed does several very important things for you. Most importantly a custom footbed allows us to help you start out with a flat surface from within the boot. Seating your foot securely on a footbed that is specifically made for you, helps to eliminate a gross amount of pronation (how much your foot rolls from side to side). Custom footbeds will also help to eliminate any pain that you may have been feeling in your arch. If you have a high arch, stock footbeds that come in boots might cause you to get cramps in your arch from lack of support. Or, if you have a flat arch a footbed with even a little arch can push up into your foot and cause soreness or cramping. A custom footbed helps to alieviate and eliminate these problems. Cuff Alignment: After you have had a custom footbed made, it is a good idea to have the upper cuff of your boot aligned and adjusted in accordance with your stance. You need to have your boot cuff in a position that is as neutral as you can get it. If the cuff of your boot is pushing against one side of your leg or the other this can cause you to pressure your edge un-intentionally, making it hard to achieve a flat ski. Canting: Following a proper cuff alignment we have a canting device that allows us to check whether your knee is centered over your boot properly. The device helps us to tell if you are knocked-kneed, or bow-legged, and if so; how many degrees off center you are. Once we have determined how many degrees off center you are we can place shims under the bindings on your skis to correct your stance even further. Even better than under binding shims is leveling your boot sole to correct your stance. When you combine all three of these steps together, we can guarantee that you be able ski much cleaner and more effectively, whether you are simply looking for a higher level of performance in your skiing, or looking for a quicker response in a race course. |
